WGA Reports

Anita Banks reported that the 9 Hole WGA would have their Presidents Cup and Club Championship Tournament on 5 and 6 of October.  Anita said that this was her last meeting as she would be leaving for Australia on Monday and would be gone for two months.  She expressed her appreciation to the board and suggested that perhaps more golfers should visit an occasional Greens Committee Meeting to get an idea of the amount of time and effort that goes into successfully operating and maintaining a course.

Diane Stinchcomb reported that a limited number of members were playing in the Club Championship this Saturday and Sunday.  Diane also said that the 18 hole WGA had limited participation in the Presidents Cup in mid-September which was partially due to the extreme weather conditions.  The WGA is in the process of putting together their slate of 2012 officers.

MGA Report

There was no report.

Course Superintendent Report

Clayton Wood reported that eight trees had been taken down last month.  In conversations with Dave Grover, head of ranch maintenance, he learned there is no place to put any more debris from the trees until the burn ban has been lifted.  In the meantime, any other trees taken down will be left on the course after the smaller branches (12” diameter) have been chipped.  The chips will be used as mulch around the course.  Clayton reported that the goose grass is gone from the greens after the spraying six weeks ago.  They have not been able to spray for crab grass because the chemical used, combined with the extreme heat, would stress the Bermuda grass.  It will take 2-3 treatments after the weather cools down.  The Hole #12 fountain pump motor is out and will be expensive to replace.  The motor which is 16 years old will cost approximately $7,000 to repair.  Clayton is currently trying to source a replacement motor from another supplier but may have to go with original vendor.  The aerator on Hole #12 is also out but will not be as costly to replace.  All ponds have been sprayed and are beginning to clear up. Water will be added to all ponds. Fertilizer has been applied to the fairways and greens and they will start the USGA fungicide program soon.  Aeration was done on the greens.  There was a delay in healing due to the stress created by the heat.

Club Professional Report

There was no report

General Manager Report

Rob James reported a portion of the new fencing along back of property on Hole 12 was removed to allow one of the homeowners access to/from the cart path.  There was discussion regarding possibility of a pipe railing along concrete bridge on Hole 8 and obtaining broken tee containers on all tee boxes.  Several issues for Hole 5 were discussed.  It was commented that the foundation of toilet building needs some repair.  There could be a water catch basin to drain water away from east side of Hole 5 and  perhaps some of the excess tree chips could be used to provide cushion over the roots along the cart path.

B Board Liaison Report

Jeanette Sterner reported that they are waiting on the budget from the sub-committee.  There was some discussion regarding overall food quality in the 19th Hole and general conditions (cleanliness and room temperature) in the Fore Seasons Restaurant.  It was agreed that the 19th Hole was the main focus at this time and suggestions were made that perhaps part of the Fore Seasons could be remodeled and added to the 19th Hole.

Unfinished Business

The Course Committee will meet on 26 September at 2:00.
