HELP SUPPORT OUR NEW FISH ARRIVALS

(And reap the “catching” benefits)

Last November, Lake Greenbriar was stocked with 3,000 hybrid bluegills, each over 6 inches in length. Those fish, with proper food support, have the capability to put on weight of over ½ lb. per year, reaching a weight of 2-3 pounds at maturity. They are aggressive feeders and offer the opportunity for exceptional future fishing. In order to assure the growth potential for these fish, we need to support them via fish feeders located on the docks of waterfront owners, and are soliciting your support towards that end.

The HLR Fishing Club is currently researching the various feeders available and trying to secure a “group discount” on both the feeders and the recommended food. We expect that the total first year cost (feeder & food) will be in the neighborhood of $150. The Club will install the feeders AND maintain the food stocking for any participating waterfront owners on Lake Greenbriar.

By participating, not only would you be supporting theses new arrivals, but you and your family will enjoy the fun of being able to catch these meaningful fish from your very own dock.

HLR FISHING LINES

After the Fishing Club’s latest “HOT” two events, a “Ladies only Fishing Tournament” and our 4th of July weekend “Night to Remember”, it’s time for our summer cooling off period---getting ready for our fall restart and our very special Holiday Party (Saturday, December 10th) that will feature the “Shake, Rattle and Roll” group this year.

In June, the Ranch was “invaded” by the “Holly Hookers” engaging in a ladies’ pan fish tournament with the winner based on the total number caught. Originally scheduled to be held from the fish feeder docks on Lake Greenbriar, due to our one day of Spring rains, it was moved to a later date on Holly Lake---making me wonder if we were to schedule a repeat event, could we get another rain day? After a hot morning of fishing, the winning hooker award was presented at the function luncheon  to Connie Moore, attired in her winnings in the picture below.

Then, in July, the Club wrapped up the first half of 2011 with a big bang---the revival of the 4th of July fireworks at Holly Lake Ranch, a 25 minute display over Lake Greenbriar that was made possible by the joint contributions of HLRA and donations by the Fishing Club members. Preceding the fireworks, the Club sponsored a picnic for members at the Event Center, as well as a “Concert in the Park” that was open to the Ranch and featured Marcus Casburn on the keyboard and vocals, whose past accolades include being part of Wayne Newton’s accompaniment. It should be emphasized that in light of the Wood County Fire Ban being in effect, it was necessary to secure an exemption, which was only possible as a result of the full support and commitment of Joe Cirasola and the Holly Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to the events provided by the Club, we continue to “partner” with the Ranch on projects enhancing the quality of life here at Holly Lake Ranch. During the first half of 2011, these projects included the significant expansion of the deck and storage facility at the Event Center, facilitating the additional stocking of 3,000 crappie and 5,000 bluegills, the maintenance 16 fish feeders, the establishment of “crappie cribs” for their support, and on-going input related to our vegetation threats and issues.

With our mission of having fun, while protecting and enhancing our lake assets, the Club has grown to nearly 200 members in its second year of existence. We are blessed and thankful for the tremendous support we have received from both the Ranch and its property owners, and remain committed to continue on the course that has led to our current success.
