History and Purpose

of the HLR 9-Hole Golf Association

The HLR 9-hole golf group was started in 1983 with 9 members. Those ladies were Caroline Berry, Fern Cotton, Mary Kay Dasicon, Adele Holland, Irma Mathews, Dell Proveck, Billy Rasberry, Annette Schapero and Zola Weatherford. They met every Wednesday and played a scramble. The last Wednesday of the month, they played a scramble with the 18 hole group. Being affiliated with the 18 holers, they also played in their tournaments. The 9-holers met once a month in the home of one of the member's for a luncheon. The luncheon tradition started by Adele Holland, continued for many years until the 9-hole group became too large to be handled in ones home. This problem was solved by each member ordering their lunch form the 19th Hole before we played golf - with our business meeting following lunch.

The year, 2005, we had a membership of 52 and decided we would become an organization of our own. We received a lot of cooperation from the pro shop and others to help us attain our goal and became known as HLR 9-Hole Golf Association and our past presidents have been: Cazzie Husbands, Lin Dunham, Vanette Ball, and Twilla Wanker.

The 9-hole golf association's purpose is to promote fun and good sportsmanship and we stress the rules while improving our golf game. Not only do we have fun while we play, we enjoy the camaraderie during the social time after we play.  Some of our members have moved on to the WGA 18-Hole group through the past years.

Our Association is made up of women of all levels of golf, from beginners to those who only wish to play 9-holes of golf. We stress enjoying the companionship of others and trying to improve our golf game.   If you are interested in joining the HLR 9- Hole Golf Association, please contact one of the current officers or the Pro Shop for more information.
