Holly Lake Ranch Hook and Ladder is a civic organization formed to support the Holly Lake Ranch Volunteer Fire Department. The members of Hook and Ladder hold a covered dish supper at 6:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the fire station located just south of entrances to Holly Lake Ranch. At present, 887 residents and property owners of Holly Lake Ranch and residents and property owners who live off the ranch but in Wood County, who are serviced by the HLRVFD, have joined Hook and Ladder by paying $20 per year dues. All of this money, except for minor miscellaneous expenses, goes to the HLRVFD.
Approximately 14% of the funds needed each year by the HLRVFD are derived from the funds raised by Hook and Ladder. An additional 9% is raised by members of Hook and Ladder and the volunteer fire fighters who conduct the Saturday night Bingo games held at the fire station. This helps offset the funds that would otherwise have to be provided through Wood County taxes. At this time, Wood County Taxes, assessed on all Wood County property owners, provide only about 15% of the HLRVFD's funds. Without the support of Hook and Ladder, Wood County taxes would have to be raised on each and every property owner in Wood County.
Hook and Ladder will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome. It is a time to socialize, make new acquaintances, receive information on the activities of the HLRVFD during the previous month, and to support a meaningful and needed organization. At the October meeting, names of candidates to run for offices and volunteers to be kitchen helpers (who set up the covered dish suppers), will be accepted. Hook and Ladder is not just about a $20 donation each year! It is about year round support by each and every one of us. Please consider how you can best help Hook and Ladder and the Holly Lake Volunteer Fire Department and attend the October 9th meeting and volunteer!
