Poison Ivy
You seasoned gardeners may already know this but I thought I would pass it
along. I have no tips for getting rid of poison ivy, but I do have a tip
(researched by my daughter) on how to deal with it when you may have been in
contact with it. Scrub with HOT water and dishwashing liquid such as Joy.
It is the oil that poison ivy leaves on the skin that is the problem. The
oil needs to be scrubbed off. When poison ivy seems like it is spreading,
it is more than likely because the poison ivy (or your fingers) deposited
oil on another part of your body where the skin is tougher and the oil could
not do damage to the skin as quickly.
Had a bad attack the first year I was here - thus the research my daughter
did. Since then, whenever I think there is any possibility that I've been
around poison ivy, as soon as I come in I bathe in hot water and scrub all
over with dishwashing liquid. Have had no problems to speak of since. OK
so it's tough on the skin - but which is worse?
Some of you lucky dudes aren't even allergic to it.
Have a happy gardening summer,
Margo
